Siemens are developing a new device that aims to stop severe bleeding and save the lives of our troops on the battlefield.

The Deep Bleeder Acoustic Coagulation cuff (DBAC) is a device that can be strapped on to victims of mine attacks or explosions.

Utilizing ultrasound technology within the cuff, the device automatically detects the location and severity of the bleeding within the limb. This triggers therapeutic ultrasound elements to emit and focus high-power energy toward the bleeding sites, speeding coagulation and halting bleeding at the injury site.

Funded by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Siemens, along with the help of the University of Washington, aim to produce a fully operational prototype within the next 18 months.
