Super Mario Bros has recently been voted the best computer game ever in an Internet poll conducted by www.onepoll.com. The brothers, Mario and Luigi, who conquer the Mushroom Kingdom to save Princess Peach took first place in the internet poll of over 2000 gamers.

Super Mario Bros Voted Greatest Video Game Ever

The classic platform game was released in 1985 and has since sold more then 40 million copies worldwide. Nintendo later released Super Mario Bros 2 in 1988 and Super Mario Bros 3 in 1990. The third installment of the series is often considered to be the best, however sales have not quite caught up with the first, tilling up to around 18 million copies sold to date.

The results clearly proved that old skool games are still the most popular amongst Britain’s gaming nation.

Pac-Man, the classic arcade game which was released in 1980; took second place and Tetris, also an 80’s game; took third.

John Sewell, spokesman for www.onepoll.com, said:

“Games which were invented years ago, like Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, Super Mario and Pac Man all appear in the top ten.
“This shows that classic games will live on forever in the hearts of computer game fans.
“The gaming industry is getting more and more competitive, releasing more and more innovative games by the minute - but this survey proves that sometimes the most simple formats work well to keep game players hooked.”

A slightly more modern game, Simms, took forth place and another classic, Sonic the Hedgehog took fifth. And apart from Grand Theft Auto which took seventh and tenth, the rest of the top ten are all computer game classics. Full list of the top 20 below.

Wii Fit Bikini Girls VS Guitar Hero Bikini Girls

The Nintendo Wii Fit has had its fair share of press over the recent months, “selling out almost as quickly as it hits the retail shelves,” it’s not surprising that the world’s first and only virtual console is becoming so popular.

However there is one phenomenon spawning from the Wii, which the bods over at Nintendo may not have expected (or maybe they did?)……the ‘Wii Fit Bikini Girl’ videos. Whilst there may not be a rival competitor console wise, the bikini clad Wii Fit girl concept has a new challenger, the Guitar Hero Bikini Girl.

Ever since the very kind uploading of “Why ever guy should buy their girlfriend Wii Fit,” guys (and possibly girls) worldwide have been going crazy over the internet video sensation known as the Wii Fit Bikini Girls.

Playboy soon caught on too, quickly releasing several videos featuring Playboy’s ‘Cyber Girl Of The Year’ Joe Garcia playing Wii Fit in next to nothing.

But now, the Wii Fit faces a new competitor…some have said, “better game, better console, better body and better underwear”, now it’s up to the public to decide.

Regardless of the console or game being played, it’s certainly a possibility that this bikini wearing game playing trend is here to stay. So in our efforts to keep the trend alive, we have gathered up a few of the best bikini clad Wii Fit girls for your viewing pleasure.

Note: Not sure if the last video really helps keep the trend alive, but it’s worth a watch if you’ve been deprived from feminine contact for a long period of time!

Hack Your Eee PC Custom Laptop

Since the release of the famed Eee PC there has been ample time for enthusiasts to dig deeper inside the machine and as a result, there are a number of useful hacks emerging.

Asus Eee PC Hack Custom Laptop

We picked out three of the best hacks that can transform your Eee PC into a top-of-the range-Laptop.

Install Ubuntu

If you’re a Linux user at heart, there is probably going to be time when you want to try out Ubuntu’s familiar desktop.

Eee PC Hack Install Ubuntu

To do this you will need to download Ubuntu Eee, a community driven derivative of Ubuntu which is specifically designed for Eee Laptops; you must also configure the Eee PC to boot from flash media.

This is probably the hardest part of the process; first you will need a small application which burns ISO images to flash drives. A popular program for doing this is called UNetbootin which is available along with the latest version of Ubuntu Eee installation from the Ubuntu website.

Then you must format the Eee Pc’s SD card using a machine running Ubuntu. This is where it gets a little tricky; you can use the dd command to fix the SD card’s MBR.

  • dd if=/usr/lib/syslinux/mbr.bin of=[type the correct device path within these brackets]

Next you must erase the existing partitions on the SD card and create a new one that is formatted with FAT32 and set with the bootable flag. A tool called gparted can you help you complete this.

Now all that is left to do is burn the ISO image to the SD card; if you have to manually select the location do so with extreme care because the target drive can be overwritten.

Then boot from SD; hold ‘Escape’ during the startup screen and select ‘USB 2.0 Card Reader SD0’ from the menu.

Install Ubuntu Eee PC Hack

Once you’re up and running follow the installation process, this may take a while but there are no special setting you must configure. Once the install is complete, your machine should be running Ubuntu with no problems.

What are Social Bookmarks

July 28, 2008 | Author: Ree | 265 Views | Email Email | Print Print
Filed under: 800HighTech, Geek News, Internet

Social bookmarking is a way for Internet users to store, organize, search, share and manage bookmarked web pages. Social Bookmarks have been around for a while but are once again, becoming increasingly popular with the Internet community.

Social Bookmarks

Originally introduced back in 1996, companies such as itlist, Backflip, Blink, Clip2, ClickMarks, HotLinks were amongst those who pushed the first online shared bookmarking services. These first gen’ social bookmarking services called for users to categorize their bookmarks into folders, much like the browser based bookmarks or favorites, which tends to become very unorganized.

Over the next three years social bookmarking became popular, but in the end, it never really took off. The founder of Blink said,

“I don’t think it was that we were ‘too early’ or that we got killed when the [dot com] bubble burst. I believe it all came down to product design, and to some very slight differences in approach.”

More recently in 2003, shared online bookmarks came bouncing back stronger than ever with the launch of a website called ‘del.icio.us’ who reinvented the idea and coined the term ‘Social Bookmarks’.

The new generation of social bookmarking not only allows users to browse and share others online bookmarks but encourages them to categorize their bookmarks with informative tags.

By labeling with tags, users are able to browse bookmarked web pages according to category. Most services will also provide information about the number of users who have bookmarked these pages.

More and more websites and blogs are adding social bookmark links to their sites making it even easier for people to drag, drop, store and tag their favorite online content. These bookmarks are usually public but can be saved privately or shared only with specified people, groups or networks.

Many social bookmarking services also provide web feeds for their lists of bookmarks so users can be updated on their favorite topics. By involving the community and sharing valuable content that is informatively tagged, social bookmarking makes searching for high quality content extremely easy for the end user.

The community and what the community have to say, is a vital part of the Web 2.0 concept. By becoming part of this social community you can help direct the right type of traffic to your website or blog.

The are several benefits of social bookmarking over search engine spiders, these include:

  • Tag-based classification of Internet web sites is done by humans who understand the content of the resource, as opposed to software, which algorithmically attempts to determine the meaning of a resource.
  • People tend to find and bookmark web pages that have not yet been indexed by web spiders.
  • This type of social bookmarking system can rank a resource based on how many times it has been bookmarked by users, in this way sites gain credibility depending on the value of the content rather than the amount of external links pointing to it.

As the social bookmarking community grows, so does the amount of companies offering this type of service. There are literally dozens of site out there offering a way to store and share your personal bookmarks. Going through all of those social bookmarking sites can be time-consuming and downloading all those toolbars is madness!

There are now several services which are designed to reduce the time and effort needed to socially bookmark a website. With sites like ’socialmarker.com’ you can It can help you spread a link on 47 of the best social bookmarking sites in a matter of minutes.

A series of internet videos from Playboy have been causing a stir amongst the guys recently. The videos show model Jo Garcia working out on the Wii Fit wearing exactly what you’d expect from a Playboy Model, very little.

Playboy model Jo Garcia is a self confessed gamer, she open admits to being a computer geek and says she would rather stay at home with her PS3 than go out to live the wild glam life style of a model. Shes also claim the title of “Cyber Girl Of The Year,” beating out 52 weeks of rival models in an online-only competition.

“People don’t understand that that the whole gaming world is not just for geeks, and assume that every person who plays video games is a geek that wears glasses,”
“It’s a misnomer that needs to be put to rest.”

Garcia also tells how she loves to play Nintendo DS and PSP,

“It’s something that I carry with me everywhere, like some people carry their iPods. It’s the norm to me. I’ve had people send me messages like, ‘oh you play video games?’ And I’m like, ‘why are you so surprised?”

As far as Garcia is concerned, gaming is one of the best things in life,

“If I could get a job… being a game tester, I would do that all day long.”

These internet video’s from Playboy, showing Jo working out on the Wii Fit system, have been gaining popularity on the net, and its not really difficult to see why.

The scientists who pioneered the internet have developed a new network dubbed the ‘grid’ which is capable of downloading at speeds almost 10,000 times faster than a typical broadband internet connection.

CERNs New Grid Network Could Make The Internet Obsolete

The latest spin-off from CERN, the particle physics center that created the web, will be able to transfer large amounts of data worldwide extremely fast, allowing a movie to be downloaded in just 5 seconds. The grid could also provide enough power to transmit holographic images, offer high-definition video telephony for the price of a local call.

David Britton, professor of physics at Glasgow University and a leading figure in the grid project, believes grid technologies could “revolutionize” society.

“With this kind of computing power, future generations will have the ability to collaborate and communicate in ways older people like me cannot even imagine,”

The grid was developed to deal with the large amounts of data that will be produced by CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) - a new particle accelerator built to probe the origin of the universe.

Asus Embed Linux OS Into All Motherboards

After being overwhelmed with good feedback from their customers, Asus are now planning to embed a lightweight version of Linux dubbed ‘Splashtop’ into all of their motherboards.

Splashtop Asus Express Gate Interface

DeviceVM, the company behind the distribution, announced on Wednesday that the hardware manufacturer would be putting Splashtop (which Asus calls “Express Gate”) into more than a million motherboards a month. Joe Hsieh, General Manager of Asus said,

“In response to great user feedback, our plan is to proliferate Express Gate across our entire motherboard-product portfolio, starting with over one million motherboards per month…….

“Consumers want to turn their PCs on and off like any other appliance, and Express Gate has made that possible.”

Splashtop/Express gate is an instant-on “secure web-surfing environment” which can be booted in seconds as an alternative to a full operating system. Applications incorporated into Splashtop include a Firefox-derived browser and the popular Skype internet telephone application.

Splashtop Asus Express Gate Interface and Applications

Splashtop first appeared on high-end Asus motherboards in October last year and was later added to the more mainstream M3 motherboards series. Splashtop will now be extended through the entire range of Asus motherboards.

Four new motherboards carrying Splashtop/Express Gate will appear this quarter: the P5Q Deluxe, P5Q-WS, P5Q3 Deluxe and P5Q-E.

DeviceVM hopes to have “numerous Splashtop-enabled motherboards, desktops and laptops available internationally in 2008″, the company said.

Google Opens Geographic Search Interface

Google added a new element to its search interface that will let other Web sites use geographically linked information.

John Hanke Announces Google Will Open Geographic Search

At the Where 2.0 conference earlier this month, John Hanke, head of Google Earth and Google Maps announced that the company had opened up outside access to its Geo Search API (application programming interface).

This means that sites incorporating Google Maps will now able to view the geographic features that are in Google’s database. Previously this information was only visible through Google’s own map site.

This is a great advancement from small amount of geographical data that used to be available to third party websites displaying Google Maps. Now for example, a website could display not just the Marriott hotel in a certain district, but also the nearby jogging trails Hanke said in an interview after a speech.

“The API guys are on a more even footing with Google” when it comes to building a mashup that combines Google Maps with a third-party site via the interface.

In another improvement, Google added a new feature to Google Maps which allows the geotagged information in Wikipedia to also be displayed. The map shows a “W” link for entries associated with a specific location, as the Google Maps Mania observed on Tuesday.

Former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer’s prostitute scandal is still big news in New York. In February earlier this year, the former Governor was caught in a federal wiretap arranging to meet with a high-priced prostitute at a Washington hotel.

Eliot Spitzer Prostitution Scandal Uncovered

The story quickly swept the tabloids, all of who soaked up Spitzer’s downfall with little mention of how and why his crimes actually came to light.

Spitzer was originally flagged when a series of Suspicious Activity Reports - reports that banks must to file with the Treasury to assist in investigating anything from money laundering to terrorist activity were submitted.

The prostitution ring that counted Spitzer as a customer had been responsible for shady bank accounts, checks and wire transfers of up to $400,000, they soon became under-investigation.

According to the FBI’s complaint:

“In or about October 2007, the FBI and the United States Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigative Division (IRS-CID) began an investigation focusing on an organization suspected of conducting prostitution and money-laundering crimes in the United States and Europe.”

The investigation began with a suspicious activity report on Spitzer. According to the Wall Street Journal, Spitzer’s transactions were regular and always kept under $10,000. A pattern that the Feds class as suspicious.

“There has been a massive federal crackdown on money laundering in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and banks have been extremely diligent in filing such reports. Those reports often include details of transactions done by innocent people.”

According to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) there have been 4.7 million SARs filed as of June 30, 2007.

Are You Sure Your Email Safe

With email providers giving away more and more online storage space, many people have taken to using their email account to store personal information.

How To Hack Email Account and Hotmail

While being able to access your details using an internet connection may seem like a good idea, an inbox/outbox or folder with passwords, bank account numbers, account usernames and other crucial information is a jackpot bonanza for identity thieves who manage to hack your email.

Even if you are careful not to store this type of information in your email account, you may still be inadvertently revealing personal information in emails conversations between family and friends.

The worst of it all is that you may never even know if your email is being hacked. A hacker can easily read an email then mark it as unread, if nothing appears to be different how are you going to know?

The easiest way to find out if your email is being hacked is by setting up an electronic tripwire which alerts you if an unwanted intruder breaks into your account.

  1. For our example we will use OneStat. You must first sign up (you can leave a fake name and URL but must provide an email address).
  2. You will receive a welcome email from OneStat, with a link to download an attachment. The attachment will contain your account number, write this number down and delete the attachment; you wouldn’t want a hacker to find this information!
  3. Change the name of a text document to something that will attract an email hacker such as ‘password list’ or ‘account number and pin’. Also change the file format from a text to a website page, for example ‘account number and pin.htm’
  4. Then attach this dummy file to an email and send it to the account you want to monitor. Make sure the email subject title also lures in the snooper (List of Passwords, Bank Details etc)
  5. Now the trap is set, if someone opens the email and the attachment, OneStat will record a hit. If you log into your account everyday you will be quickly notified if anyone has been snooping around.

OneStat Email Monitor

The OneStat account page then gives you details on each “visitor” including the date and time they accessed the web document and more importantly their location and IP address!

OneStat Details

Although this may not stop your email being hacked, it’s a good way to monitor your account. If your email does get hacked then you should quickly change your password to something stronger.

Also if you see the hacker’s location and you only know one or two people in that area, then it can narrow down your list of possible suspects.

The StumbleUpon community is extremely large and continuing to grow. In July 2006 StumbleUpon had around 1 million users and as of December 2007, the community had grown to over 4 million.
