Cofounders of Google, Sergey Brin and Larry Page, have added a fighter jet to their collection of planes – a Dornier Alpha Jet.

The jet is actually registered to H211 LLC of Palo Alto, a company that operates private planes for the companies’ top executives. The new airplane is being kept at NASA’s Moffett Field base, situated just a few miles from Google’s Mountain View headquarters.

The Dornier Alpha-Jets were designed as a light attack and trainer jet. They were built in the 1970’s and 1980’s by Germany’s Dornier and France’s Dassault-Breguet.

Google’s fighter jet has two seats; a wingspan of 29 feet 11 inches; is 43 feet 4.9 inches long; and stands 13 ft 9 inches tall at the tail.

According to the New York Times the plane is equipped with scientific instruments to help out with NASA missions. Matt Furman, an official Google spokesman said:

“Because of the type of aircraft we are talking about, NASA now has the ability to do even more than they could before,”

It is not clear who exactly owns or flies the fighter jet. But Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt is an avid pilot. The Google bosses already own Boeing 767, a Boeing 757 and two Gulfstream Vs. The Dornier Alpha Jet is their newest edition.
