We are in the process of adding a range of printers to our stock, we already have 4 available on finance and we will be adding a few more in the near future. If you would like to see any specialist printers for either business or personal use, please feel free to leave any comments with your suggestions and we’ll try our best to make them available for you. To help explain which printer may be best for your needs, we thought we would have a closer look at the different types of printers on the market.

An Overview of Printer Types
Monochrome Laser
Generally, if you print a lot of text, such as letters and other business documents, a laser printer is likely your best bet. They are fast, produce good-looking documents at only a few cents per page and have more networking options.
Monochrome Laser Printers are often a lot faster than inkjets and corporate machines can print text at nearly twice the speed of home models. When printing text, laser printer speeds ranged from 12 to 30 pages per minute. This is good news for a busy office or anyone who demands high volumes of print.
The amount of paper the model can hold also plays part to how fast and efficient your printer can run. Monochrome lasers hold from 150 to 900 sheets, with corporate models frequently holding around 500 sheets as standard. Expansion trays can also be added, holding up to as many as 5000 sheets for certain models.
Most high-end lasers include at least 64MB of RAM. Many models now come with expansion options permitting a few hundred megabytes of memory, important for queuing multiple print jobs at once. A medium sized office should equip themselves with at least 64MB – 128MB. Possible other specifications to consider are the network capabilities and remote management options, laser printers tend to have more options in this field than a standard inkjet printer.
The ongoing cost of running the printer is also a factor, laser toner cartridges are much cheaper than inkjet cartridges and the overall cost should work out to be just a few cents per page. The initial price of laser printers has also dropped dramatically over past few years making them affordable for the home user too, but despite saving money on ink and cost per page, the initial outlay will still be considerably more than inkjet printers.
Color Laser
If you would like to print in color and still demand the large volumes of print like an office or small business, then you should consider buying a color laser printer.
Ideal for office documents containing color charts and other graphics, color laser printers often produce black-and-white pages at a cost per page similar to monochrome lasers. Print speeds when printing black and white text are also similar to monochrome lasers at around 12 to 30 pages per minute, however when printing graphics in color, expect to get speeds of around 5 to 20 pages per minute depending on the model.
Most color lasers produce photos that are adequate for many uses, such as real-estate brochures, car insurance claims, or advertising fliers. Many models now support glossy paper that helps prints look more like real photos. However, they still lack the color accuracy and print resolution to rival inkjet printers.
Like the monochrome laser the intial cost of a color laser machine is considerably more than an inkjet. The color laser toner cartridges are also more expensive than the monochrome cartridges but the overall cost for printing in color still works out to just few cents per page.
Inkjet
Inkjet printers offer a good compromise between quality and speed. Text quality isn’t the highest but they can produce extremely good quality photos and vendors are increasingly adding new features such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to increase connectivity options. PictBridge, a dedicated UBS port for transfering images from a digital camera, is already a popular feature on most photo orientated inkjets.
Makers of business orientated inkjets offer a host of extra features such as higher capacities, optional paper trays, ethernet network connectivity, and more memory. Inkjet printers are quite a bit slower than laser printers, you can expect around 1-5 pages per minute depending on the content of the document.
Inkjets are the cheapest printers to buy, but if you print a lot, the cost of replacement ink cartridges will certainly catch up on you in short time. Most cartridges only hold enough ink for 300-1000 prints, the cheaper the cartridge the less ink it will have so even buying economy priced replacements usually doesn’t save any money in the long run. It’s the price and capacity of ink jet consumables that will determine the lifetime cost of an inkjet printer.
Multi Functional
An MFP combines print, copy, scan, and sometimes fax functions in an often large all-in-one unit. These are especially attractive for personal use, home-based business or even an executive office. MFP’s can come in either inkjet or laser form and can be geared for office or personal use.
Office-oriented models have an automatic document feeder for scanning multiple pages as a single task, and they often have a built-in fax machine and Ethernet or Wi-Fi networking.
Photo-oriented models sometimes let you scan slides and negatives, and they usually have built-in media slots for reading from digital camera memory cards. Both office and photo-oriented models come in inkjet or laser formats so the choice is highly dependent on your needs. A laser MFP would be ideal for a fast moving office environment whilst an inkjet printer would do well serving a smaller operation concerned about print quality.
Snapshot
A more specialist type of printer is the Snapshot printer. They print extremely high quality 4×6 inch photo images and connect easily to your computer of digital camera, and because of the specific size of photos, these printers are compact and portable.
Using either dye-sublimation or inkjet print technologies, snapshot printers are able to print almost photo quality images. Models with four or more colors of ink generally produce the best quality and models with several shades of black and grey ink will print high quality black and white photos.
Being designed for a specialist market, snapshot printers are generally more expensive than inkjets designed for personal use. Never-the-less models designed for the home user are very affordable and produce high quality prints.

Google Gphone Tipped To Compete Against Apple iPhone

Filed under: 800HighTech, Geek News, Internet, Products, Software
Talks of a phone from Google dubbed the Gphone, have recently been causing a stir on the World Wide Web. There are articles mentioning deals between certain high profile companies with expected release dates and even articles from people claiming they have already seen prototypes. Whether or not we can believe everything we read, Google are on the up and up so a move into the wireless industry is not out of character.
There have been a few reports that Google are making a big push in the development of their own handset. High Tech Computers, a Taiwan-based smart phone maker are rumored to be designing the Linux device which is said to incorporate a Texas Instruments edge chipset. There have been a number of specifications listed in these reports and if all of this turns out to be true, Google may revolutionize the way we use our cell phones.
Reports suggest we can expect a handset that provides Wi-Fi, 3-G and GPS capability, a user friendly browser such as Linux or possibly one designed by Google, access to VoIP, Gtalk or even Skype, a 2 Megapixel Camera, Mp3, a predictive Qwerty Keyboard and of course, a large color screen.
The Gphone is apparently scheduled for release early 2008, with T-Mobile and Orange tipped to be providing services it may seem like everything is almost decided. If Google can come up with a handset that can incorporate all these features then they really will have a rival to the Apple iPhone.
The iPhone is a great device and certainly did take mobile technology to the next level; however some felt it did not quite live up to the hype. All this talk of the Gphone is setting the stage for something really spectacular but with no sign of any official concept designs, it is difficult to really predict what is on the companies mind.
Note: All images are Unofficial Concept Sketches; designs are artist impressions of what the Gphone may look like.
Family Guy Video Downloads for XBox 360 Live

Microsoft and Fox have join forces with the new deal to allow the first two seasons of the the popular animated T.V. series Family Guy to be downloaded to the XBox. Family Guy is the first television series or service to make its way to the XBox. This is a strong deal that will help Microsoft continue to move past it’s similiar Apple competitor iTunes. This will be a big season for Microsoft XBox with the launch of Halo 3 right around the corner, since the demographics are the same - males 18 - 34.
For our Microsoft Xbox 360 customers, you will be able to purchase each of the episodes from the first two seasons as well as the straight-to-DVD film “Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story” for 160 Microsoft points, or about $2, which is comparable with the pricing of TV episodes on iTunes and other VOD platforms.
BumpTop Enhanced Desktop Interface

The digital age is here and has been for some time now. The computer interface we have come to know has become boring and in my opinion out-dated. It no longer gives a sense of high tech or advanced. It is a 2-D mundane layout that has me missing the days of old when my desk was in a chaotic and cryptic mess that only I understood. Well, programmers feel the same and they are taking this boring interface to the next level!
This is a great idea and a fun interface. Some problems with it however is you do not see the file names that distinguish file types from one another and you are not able to see a thumbnail preview of a picture or document like in new Windows environment. I am sure these bugs can be worked out and the program will be much better once it gets to the serious stage.
If you remember the Photosync Technology and Microsoft Surface environment, this interface is quickly adapting and evolving. I am ready for the change now - hopefully it becomes mainstream soon.
NASA Uses Aerogel Technology

The guys at NASA are using a silicon based Aerogel in their mission dubbed ‘StarDust” which involves capturing particles from space. Collecting these particles without damaging them has always posed a problem because the impact velocity of particles can be up to 6 times the speed of a rifle bullet. Although these particles are smaller than a grain of sand, high-speed capture can alter their shape and chemical composition - or even vaporize them entirely. This silicon-based solid has a porous, sponge-like structure in which 99.8 percent of the volume is empty space. By comparison, Aerogel is 1,000 times less dense than glass, which is another silicon-based solid.

Sandboxie Computer Protection

If you spend alot of your time using the internet for work or pleasure, you’ll know computer virus’s and spyware are at constant battle with your anti-virus software, even downloading tool bars or add-ons can be a pain to get rid of if you decide not to keep them. Enter Sandboxie, a great piece of free software that not only protects your systems drive but allows you to completely delete anything you have installed or added to you PC with a click of the mouse.
In computer security, a sandbox is a security mechanism for safely running programs, hence the name sandboxie, a sandbox provides a tightly-controlled set of resources for guest programs to run in, such as scratchspace on disk and memory. Sandboxie incorporates this technology by creating a sandbox as a temporary drive for all data transferal.
When you run a program on your computer, data flows from the hard disk to the program via read operations. The data is then processed and displayed, and finally flows back from the program to the hard disk via write operations. With Sandboxie running all data is intercepted in the sandbox, data then flows in both directions between the program and the sand box, leaving your permanent drive free from read and write operations.
Sandboxie intercepts all changes to both your files and registry settings, making it virtually impossible for any software to reach outside the sandbox. Even browser items are intercepted, so when you throw away the sandbox, all the history records and other side-effects of your browsing disappear as well.
This great piece of software is free so trying it out should not be a problem, however if you find it makes your Web experience that much safer, you are encouraged to register the program for a small fee.
